Ao abandonar a final da prova feminina por equipes na terça (27/7), a ginasta norte-americana Simone Biles surpreendeu o mundo. A atleta afirmou: “Tenho que me concentrar na minha saúde mental”

Aos 24 anos, Biles já ganhou 4 medalhas olímpicas em disputas anteriores e, antes de pisar em Tóquio, já era considerada uma das grandes estrelas dos jogos mundiais

Durante entrevista concedida após a prova, ela deu pistas de que pode estar passando por um episódio de burnout, apesar da palavra não ter sido mencionada em momento algum

A síndrome de burnout é um distúrbio psíquico causado pela exaustão extrema. A condição também é chamada de síndrome do esgotamento profissional, pois quase sempre está associada a uma pressão enorme por desempenho

Entre os sinais presentes em um quadro de burnout, estão a baixa autoestima e a insegurança em relação às próprias capacidades

Na ocasião, Biles afirmou: "Eu simplesmente não confio em mim tanto quanto antes. E não sei se é a idade, mas fico um pouco mais nervosa quando faço ginástica. Sinto que também não estou me divertindo tanto quanto antes"

Um quadro de burnout não se inicia de uma hora para outra; ele é desencadeado por vários episódios em que os limites pessoais são testados.
"Situações assim fazem parte da vida de atletas de alto rendimento, mas também de pessoas comuns", explica a psicóloga Juliana Gebrim

Entre os sintomas de burnout, estão: excessivo cansaço mental e físico, insônia, dificuldade de concentração, desânimo e apatia. Sentimentos de negatividade, derrota e fracasso também são recorrentes

Há quem aposte que a desistência de Biles consiste em uma estratégia da equipe norte-americana para poupá-la para as provas individuais. O fato é que também revelou o lado humano de uma estrela olímpica
