O que é o ciclo circadiano?
Ciclo circadiano corresponde ao período de 24 horas no qual o corpo humano executa uma série de processos necessários à sua manutenção. Esse mecanismo é responsável pelo chamado relógio biológico – que indica, entre outras coisas, quando estamos com fome ou precisamos dormir
O ciclo circadiano segue o comando do hipotálamo, que é uma região do cérebro influenciada por estímulos externos, como a variação da luz. Para o desempenho correto das funções metabólicas, é importante que o corpo entenda a diferença entre dia e noite
Isso porque o cérebro precisa produzir hormônios específicos, como o cortisol e a melatonina, de acordo com os períodos do dia
À luz do dia, por exemplo, o cérebro envia estímulos para as glândulas suprarrenais, para que elas aumentem a produção de cortisol. Isso faz com que o corpo esteja mais alerta para a execução de suas tarefas diárias
À noite, com menos estímulos luminosos, o hipotálamo aumenta a produção da melatonina.
Isso prepara o organismo para dormir, ao diminuir a temperatura corporal, a pressão arterial, a frequência cardíaca e o metabolismo
Insônia, gravidez, estresse, uso de remédios, menopausa, mudanças de fuso horário e hábitos como dormir tarde, trocar o horário das refeições ou do trabalho podem bagunçar o relógio biológico – que, neste caso, não estaria compatível com o ciclo circadiano
Nessas situações, é comum sentir cansaço excessivo, baixa concentração, dor de cabeça e/ou irritabilidade. Por isso, é importante tentar estabelecer uma rotina bem definida, dentro dos horários indicados pelo corpo
