7 mitos e verdades sobre o vira-lata, o queridinho dos brasileiros

Cães ou gatos SRD (sem raça definida) são os animais de estimação mais populares nos lares brasileiros. De acordo com o levantamento PetCenso 2020, realizado pelas empresas DogHero e Petlove, o vira-lata segue como o favorito do Brasil

No ranking que elege os 10 pets preferidos, os SRD representam 32% dos cãezinhos escolhidos, e 95% dos gatos. Ao todo, há mais de 1,8 milhão de pets cadastrados em ambas as plataformas, entre os quais 740 mil são SRD

Espertos e agitados, os animais sem raça definida têm características únicas: tamanhos, cores, temperamento, entre outros fatores; isso tudo por conta do "mix" de raças presente na genética de cada um deles. Veja 7 mitos e verdades sobre esses bichinhos:

Mito. Assim como qualquer outro pet, eles necessitam de uma dieta nutritiva e balanceada. Esse mito se difundiu, infelizmente, porque muitos cães e gatos desabrigados são vira-latas e acabam "se virando", ao ingerirem quaisquer alimentos que encontram na rua, para sobreviver

"Cães SRD podem comer qualquer coisa"

Verdade. Muitos apontam o Bengal como a raça mais inteligente, já que sua origem vem do cruzamento entre o felino selvagem e o doméstico. Porém, na maioria dos rankings, os gatos vira-latas sempre são lembrados, pois a mistura de raças seria um fator capaz de influenciar positivamente a inteligência desses felinos domésticos

"Gatos SRD estão entre os mais inteligentes"

Em partes. Não podemos dizer isso com certeza, pois é algo que varia muito. De acordo com os pesquisadores, os cães sem raça definida têm melhor percepção espacial e melhor capacidade de resolver problemas

Verdade. Sem conhecer os pais do peludinho, fica difícil mesmo prever qual tamanho o seu bichinho terá na vida adulta. Por isso, é sempre bom considerar que o pet pode ficar maior do que se imagina

Mito. Ao longo da vida do vira-lata, ele precisará tomar vacinas, passar por consultas com um médico veterinário, ter uma boa alimentação e ser um pouquinho mimado, assim como qualquer outro pet

Mito. Não há comprovações sobre isso; contudo, existe uma falsa impressão de que eles vivem mais, devido à seleção natural imposta a cães que conseguem viver mais tempo nas ruas e que passam essas características para seus filhotes
